Ten years before the Super Bowl of motocross (First ever supercross race) was held at LA Coliseum, Oakland Stadium broke ground. Having been built in 1964, This makes Oakland’s venue one of the oldest on the supercross schedule. With the three major cities of San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland in the bay area, it is very common for supercross promoters to pick one or 2 at maximum to visit in any one given year. That makes tickets to races in the bay area a hot commodity even during some cool January and February nights.
The pits are very easy navigate as all 3 main areas reside in one parking lot. The activation area contains all the exciting sights and sounds supercross fans come to expect from a day at the races. 2 lanes of factory supported haulers sit back-to-back making it easy to locate your favorite factory teams. The back of the final lane is where you’ll typically find that privateer teams the biggest pit presence such like TPJ Racing, Madd Parts Kawasaki and Team Solitaire. Beyond that, the back or outskirts of the pit area are where you’ll find many privately funded racers. Word to the wise, privateers are often the most accessible and welcoming athletes in the pits so don’t sleep on these sleepers.
Maybe the biggest knock on the Oakland’s stadium location in that the supporting infrastructure is lack luster at best when it comes to grabbing a pint before the lights go down for opening ceremonies. A Vurbmoto Favorite is a quick trip over to In-n-Out for a couple double doubles… Animal Style. If you’ve got a suggestion, leave it in the comments below as some local advice is always welcomed.
